With the company trading in its 3rd year, I thought it was time to sit back and reflect on our journey so far.

I guess the best place to start would be to introduce myself, especially if you have just stumbled across this blog by accident. My name is Mike and I’m the owner of Tailored Data Solutions. Now, I am sure many of you are thinking, how on earth did I decide I wanted to spend my days cracking data and offering services to make the best use of it?

My journey into data started at TMS, a local mailing house, initially as a machine feeder. When I

had completed college the company hired me full-time and I worked my way through the Print and then onto the Data department. You can imagine it – still a spring chicken, in the prime of my life and not a wrinkle in sight. Here I learnt how to do document composition and work with

updating, enhancing and cleansing data.



However, with youth on my side I decided to jet off to Brazil. I worked in the Export department of two footwear companies, and studied International Commerce at a local university. I can hear you now, what has this got to do with data? You are right, it doesn’t directly link, but it was a

great experience that has shaped my life today. From the lifestyle, new food and the different work culture. I can also now speak Portuguese, and yes, it is always my party trick at any key event.

On my return to England I got straight back into the data swing of things by returning to TMS, first as a temp, before moving through the company an taking a leading role in the Data department.

In 2013, I moved to a digital and direct mail agency. The initial remit was to work with Cygnus, a data cleansing tool, but soon I became the database administrator for the on-site client databases. During my time as a database administrator I developed and rolled out an SSRS system for the client services team.

From there I decided I wanted to offer a service that was bespoke to everyone I worked with, giving them the very best in data solutions. I now have a business that treats our clients individually, we adapt to their needs and provide them with a service that always adds value to their operations. I no longer have Monday blues and even if I do say myself, we really are the champs of Data Management.
